From the fine folks in Chanute, Kansas, those are Kustom.

Here's a pic of some original cabinets using those horns. http://katzassaudio.com/kustom.html

Sure, so long as you recognize that my data can be accompanied by caveats like:

"as seen from the dimlit back corner of a smokey dive bar"

"it may have happened only in a dream"

"i'm not saying it's right, just how we do it north of the Mason/Dixon"

    Re: 811B with screw thread

I worked at Kustom for a bit...that horn was an OEM from Cerwin-Vega.

Early ones had Atlas drivers, by the 70's Kustom and EV had some sort of "Sweetheart" relationship, so they would have had 1823M. I happened to notice...the ones Bowtie posted have EV drivers, not date correct. Prolly the Atlas were blown and replaced. About the time of the EV change CV "modernized" the horn to make it look more like a radial...this horn was used in the M-15 and MT-15, difference being the MT had a pair of T35A tweets.

Here's a pic of Kustom's version of a VOTT. This is the M-15 on top, the "K" is covering the holes wher tweets would go on an MT version.

CV made it for themselves threaded and bolt on, Kustom only used the threaded.

Here a pair of CV with dividers gone, note the residual reinforcing ribs.

There was a version where just the center rib is left in also.

If anybody gets a pair of Kustom MF-1012, LMK. I have a project in mind.

OMG I had no idea that Kustom used Altec components?!?! Really?
    BTW...the cabinets are strangely beautiful!

I see what you are talking about. the CV's pre-date by about 10 years, though. And the Emilar is way bigger.

Probably more function rather than artistic license....but we'll never know, all the engineers involved are probably no longer with us. Wouldn't surprise me if it even turned out to be a common design team member involved. Hey it was the 70's, man!

I suspect the idea originally was to look like an Altec horn. When JBL and Community radials got hot they just cut out the ribs to look more like their horns.
